Good continuation, really exited about where Ben is going now:)

Where'd you guys get your inspiration? ;)

4/27/2009 at 1:44 p.m. by jdemeere

@Sean_Duran - hehe... the look is black and white with crushed levels which can be seen in noir or more recently Sin City. I watched some noir films to get in the mood the day I did this... yesterday that is. Oh and "you guys" means me... Was only me in this one. Just me in the garage with a green screen. Green screen is fun like that. hehe.

@lensun - Thanks for the comment.

@rockness_monster - Hehe 2 fingers indeed indeed. I see you got 3 finger ninjas. ;)

Oh my! one man show!:p

I was just thinking about 2 Fingers and remembered you saying you shot it on green screen. It looks really good -- you did a super job of keying it out! Totally convincing. The voice-over suits the style well, too. Great entry, especially for having to handle it yourself. The idea of flip-flopping the protagonist is kind of cool, too. This may be my favorite of your films on Rootclip. Good luck!

Hey thanks! Yeah green screen is fun to play with but it is a PAIN when you have a bad camera. Funny story... I keyed it out by using a color range and applying multiple plugins just to get it to work right. It wasn't until today I discovered Keylight... I did a test and ZOMG it was sooo much easier than the way I did it. To be honest I probably butchered it but when I applied the look it covered that up nicely. Only thing that saved me on that was the lighting. I lit everything to make hard edges. Hehe and the car scene... my left arm is waving a light in my face to appear like passing traffic. Another way to mask my slaughter. ;) But now after I just tested that keylight plugin... my worries are gone.

Keylight is a very, very beautiful thing. And try to key correctly with a crappy camera is certainly VERY difficult. But it works beautifully with the Film Noir style. Props to you.

Dood this is awesome! And it's not spoiled by my awful acting this time ^_^ lulz.

Yeah man, bless up! This is really good! Perhaps your best work so far. I like the fact that you changed the whole genre of the movie.

Good luck, and keep it up, you have my vote!

I liked that you actually included Angie in the story. Seems that some of the other submissions forgot about her...

The Film Noir thing is cool.

4/28/2009 at 1:54 p.m. by JakusB

@marlee

The other submissions didn't forget about Angie... Shes clearly seen in "ninja battle 3 fingers" gasping... In "Escape?", there's a gunshot and a scream, leading us to believe she was shot. "Sunshine All the Time Makes A Desert" doesn't include her, but that doesn't mean shes no longer in the story, she just wasn't included in that chapter. For all we know, she could be with Mike or maybe shes one of "them."

I like it. The green screen came out great, had me fooled! The waving of the light by the face is also a great move! What I think these three one man entries says most about us.....filmmakers need more friends :)

4/28/2009 at 3:50 p.m. by jdemeere

@TurboSquirrel - Nah man... your acting has been fine... plus you are willing to do it so that is always needed. I absolutely HATE to be on screen. ;) I prefer to be looking through the camera. I will always hate my performance and think yours is great! ;) @likwid - Thanks a lot, glad you enjoyed it. @marlee - Hey thanks. I kind of wonder what happened to Sarah myself. Mike does think about them both in this one. I think Sarah has been captured or something. ;) @JakusB - maybe Marlee was meaning Sarah? @BohemianFilmCommune - Hehe I like it when I fool people. I mean sure I could have drove a car with a mount but getting the look wouldn't be right. You need the hard edges of the lights to bring out the subjects and keep them from being flat. I kind of neglected my lighting kit the last entries but I really need to get out of that bad habit. ;) I had 6 lights on me there and I'm sure I would have been pulled over driving with all those. Haha. I changed my profile pic to a before screen which you can see just how much light was in there. It was dark outside in the car port. The big problem was all the bugs flying in my face. ;)

Oh and I got a lot of great friends. Friends that are aspiring actors with a lot of extra time and willing to go through the pain of getting the right shots with you is another story. But the people that have been doing it with me are great!

I for one forgot about Sarah...after reading this I had to go pack through the videos to figure out who you're talking about.

I think you mean when Mike says in the first video, "Hey 'sir' what's up?" I could be wrong though.

Great work sir!

I miss the fat guy from the last one though...

Yeah, who is this "Sarah" your referring to....? I'm perplexed.

4/29/2009 at 1:38 p.m. by jdemeere

Maybe it is Tom's alternate ego? Maybe just a lost cause. Who knows.

@ericAmerica - He knows where you live. ;)

Awesome entry!

I absolutely love the film noir look (we actually debated doing that for our chapter 3 :) and the fact that you've been so true to the genre with all the aspects of it. I think the style of the voiceover is spot on - nice writing!

This entry feels the most true to the story, too (much more than our chapter 3, to be honest), and I like what you've done to the rose petal.

You totally fooled me with the greenscreen as well :) And I'm doubly impressed by the whole thing since you too (!) was a one man crew....

You got my vote!

Hey thanks elnitter! Glad I fooled you... it's part of filmmaking to make it believable I think. ;) Thanks for the kind comment and vote sir!
