woah!
This was really good! However...you totally disregarded rule #1 "Keep submissions close to 60 seconds".
A little unfair in my opinion, but this was done REALLY well so I gotta give you props for that. The motorcycle move was cool!
um hell yeah
That was a good 2 or 3 rootclip videos! You guys must have spent a lot of time on that, it shows. Nicely done.
Whatever happened to trying to keep it at a minute?
Whoops, left some audio at the end of your sequence there.
Canada!
A little long, but a decent entry nonetheless. Good thinking with the whip concept.
Dang, a shed with a three story fire escape?
... Yeah, Canada.
what's your camera rig like? the image quality and camera work are beautiful. It looks like you shot this on film.
word! the image quality is fantastic! what are you working with?
Canadians! WNBA! Classic stuff.
It's a bit long though, like way long, and the music is so loud that I can barely hear what they are saying most of the time.
I give it an A+ for the stunts though. I love the jump onto the motorcycle.
"A whip?"
"Yes, like 'whoo-pa-chi'!"
Hilarious!!
Santa's whip? I thought it was Mrs. Santas! :-)
The stunts were great guys, and this had a good plot twist and a really nice look to it. Great work!
well done, it was quite funny! however, there were a few issues with understanding the people sometimes, but for the most part it was understandable. i think the biggest problem is that it's 3 minutes long. other than that though, i enjoyed it!
Aside from it being near 3 minutes long, there were no real problems. God I want to have your babies D:
Seeing as how this should probably win and is nowhere close to winning at this point, I might just mention to to some of my friends.
Whoa! Those shots/stunts are incredible! I can't see this losing
Hey thanks for the comments guys, we knew it was going to be a little long but when I sat down and wrote the script I felt like it was too funny/ridiculous to cut short and then Eric, what with his jumping around and sliding down grain elevator pipes and all, we decided to just stick with it and see what happened. We knew there were a couple of fine tuning things we needed to do as well, most of which have been pointed out in the above comments, but we got pushed into a time crunch because of the set - which is an abandoned grain elevator in Minneapolis. We had to climb through a hole under a staircase, climb a ladder and then jump through a window to get in, and on the second day of shooting two guys followed us and watched us with binoculars, and then got the police to come around and watch us so we had to just sit there and pretend to take pictures of each other before giving up, it was hilarious.
Anyway Eric will comment on the camera and everything, and props to killerrobotninja for a very well made movie, it's pretty stiff competition.
Two days of shooting was well worth it. The more I watch this video the more I like it.
clever writing. great editing. i like the soundtrack. Overall, strong work.
Hey, Eric here, I appreciate all the comments and critiques, film making is the type of adventure where you never outgrow learning something new!
We considered trimming to a smaller time, but felt that the conversation only was boring, and if you're going to go over, might just as well be the fun part!
Technical Info: Canon HV20 in 24p Final Cut Pro for the color correction and widescreen.
Other than the camera, we had an old tripod as a steadicam, the legs folded up and spread out, holding onto 2 for support.
Unfortunately, the flv that was uploaded was accidentally our first .mov to flv conversion attempt at the lowest possible video and sound quality!
I uploaded a more viewable version to youtube:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X8tdgWIyZvk
, it has the same unfortunate sound issues and minute of nothing tagged in as I didn't want to change anything until after the voting was over.
but...if anyone is interested, I'll probably upload an hd version sometime next week
I came across the site through stumbleupon last week, very cool that there is such a community, I look forward to being a part!
And SomethingsAwry, thanks for the promo!
insert nerdy video clip praise here!
Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man.
Yeah, no problem, I really like what you're doing here :D
rock on little brother.. funny stuff!!
psh.. canada...
This is great! The hard work you went through shows. I love the story, I love the humor (really funny), and I love the ending much better than KRN'S but come on! 3 minutes!!! I got sh@t on for making my first one at 1:40. I want to vote for your video so bad, but you broke the rules in a major way.
DISQAULIFIED!
Maaaan, I hope they do a western for the next rootclip!
Eric! This totally rocked :D thanks for posting the link on myspace ;).
~April~
I can't get over how good this looks. And funny! I bet it would be a lot of fun working with you guys.
Good Luck Eric hope you guys win! -Donna
Awesome work on the clip guys! Looks like you had fun!! :) ~Erin
I'll have to watch it again.
I do think this was well done, but a little too campy for my taste.
The one that is winning is so lame. Ya'll should win for sure...I'm putting it on facebook to try and help.
I should say...the other one isn't lame, it's just not nearly as entertaining. Maybe I'm biased? What with 2 smokin hot dudes in this one and everything ;) You guys are hilarious.
hilarious indeed!
ours has a smokin hot chick, though... and i think eneryone can agree, that's better.
nicely done sons.
rips sunglasses off
As stated in Alien Technology, "whoa."
Great job with the action, guys! Your moves and your location and even your script worked very well! I had an enjoyable time watching this. And bonus points for the off-the-wall Santa's Whip item -- I love the humor and plot direction!
BUT... you definitely, definitely could tighten up the editing by leaps and bounds. If you stripped it down nice and tight, the run-time would probably be seen much more favorably (and might even garner some forgiveness from the more rigid voters). DEFINITELY scan your film like you're on a mission to cut frames and shave seconds!
I don't mean to overshadow the brilliance and quality of your work, though. This entry is among my favorites posted out of all the rounds so far! Best of luck -- hopefully we'll be seeing you guys in future rounds! :>
shannyblair1313, we appreciate it!
Fantastic movie, but is it really fair to go over by so much time. I mean, I know that you thought it was boring if you cut it down but that is the nature of the contest. It is your job to figure out how to make it interesting in the time alloted. I could see a minute and half, maybe two minutes, but this is over the top. We ran into the same problem with our entries in the beta version of rootclip, but we bit the bullet and cut out some good stuff to try and at least get close to the time limit. Trust me, our films were much, much better in the longer versions.
Not harping on the film though, it is really quite good. The length just gives you an unfair edge.
rains_g in the house! are you gonna come out and play again one of these days? I think you also suffered from best-videos-but-can't-seem-to-win syndrome. Rootclip should start a support group for the likes of us. :)
If we had rains_g, bryceanderic, and KRN ;) competing in the next cycle, the videos would start getting incredible, imho
ok, maybe imo is more accurate.
I plan on entering the next rootclip, the new judging system sounds pretty interesting. I agree, if all of us enter the next rootclip then there would be some incredible stuff. Thought about getting in this chapter but didn't make it and didn't know if it was even worth trying. I am out to win it all in the next rootclip though.
"ours has a smokin hot chick, though... and i think eneryone can agree, that's better."
KRN isn't that your sister D:
well, at least someone that shares your last name I noticed >_>
It's my wife.
Ding Dong, its your sandals. I am a brown Sandle!
I wish this wasn't the last one before the Final Chapter, because I just had a really great idea...Oh well, sometimes you eat the bar, and sometimes, well, he eats you.
I laughed out loud. Nice acting. The guy in the red and white shirt was rad.
nice
NIce job on the clip. Looks like you had a ton of fun! Smooth move getting on the bike.
The camera work and editing are superior. No effects needed to show its dominance. Nice work to you both.
Pretty crazy stuff, like real filmmaking
blame Canada!
By far the coolest brother and brother's friend. Woohoo
Santa has some crabby friends.
Unbelievable!!! I am amazed!!
We'll be back next gen with slimmed down, wittier, and more efficient entries that will BLOW YOUR MIND people :) thanks for voting everyone, this was a ton of fun and we even got spied on by the police while making it, how badass is that??
The way this was shot and scored still amazes me! So freakin sweet!
