Good stuff!
I like the cat. Can I pre-order my Pet Kit. ; )
I can tell you put some work into this but the framing was off and the overall premise bothered me. The digital cat made me wonder, Where the hell did that come from? and not in a good way. A valiant effort, just missed the mark
The "some assembly required pet kits" joke looked good on paper but the transition showing what would happen if you actually sold them was tricky.
Funny guys. I love the pulling of weapons and the crazy cat! It could be paced a bit faster though...
Thanks for the thoughts and support, guys. Yeah, although the script seemed okay, we did run into issues where we had to trim (to our detriment) to get the length down. Darn verbosity! ;-) There was a really cute inside joke we were desperate to keep, but alas! :p
We had somewhat better transitions in an earlier version of the script (but that's all "coulda' shoulda' woulda'"). We wanted to add a little backstory (that Frank had test-marketed the "some-assembly-required" pet kits--hence the cat "Fluffy") and that his real goal was landing a book deal (not world domination). But there was trimming, and voice-overing to deal with the occasional country traffic and crickets--dear God, the crickets! ;-) Again, I don't mean to excuse our short-comings, just let you know we all gained even more respect for the little hassles of doing a film shoot (like our four year old walking on dry Fall leaves near the camera :-).
With our story we were aiming at the comedy angle (and unfortunately I suck at geometry) ;-).
We had fun with prop design--the "Reanimation for Dummies" book and making "Fluffy" creepy enough (which has caused my son to sleep with the light on, even though he knows full well he was petting a roll of green paper). Ah--isn't therapy the gift parents always give their kids? ;-)
Anyhow--we literally called "Mo'" on the way to visit family and friends a state away, and Karl hated the idea of being on film. We saw Mo' and shot this beast the next morning. I'll take all responsibility for the framing (I'm guessing that's what I should've actually done with the camera, but I'm a "I can only press the button" type of gal).
I think we all learned a lot from this--and man, did we laugh! Karl just showed me all the competition--there's definitely some neat stuff (but I'm not surprised). We appreciate any and all constructive criticism. :-)
*Whoops--We didn't gain "respect for the little hassles"--We gained respect for those of you guys who regularly deal with those hassles in shoots, and for the rest of you, like us, who go "What could possibly go wrong?" Crickets. Crickets that would make an Old Testament plague proud. ;-)
Very nice Karl.
