Ha ha! :D

Rough around the edges, but not without heart! You guys could stand to improve your equipment stock a little -- hopefully a win here could change that for next time. ;)

The acting was a bit more like pretending, but sometimes that flies just fine. The nature of the entry made it acceptable here. You could also play a bit more with your pacing and angles, and liven things up with a little more activity. BUT, good props, and your costumes worked fine, and the monster hand and music cues were pretty cool.

I would enjoy following something like this. Nice job and best of luck! :>

sweet guns + a funny voice = a good time.

WTF? Those transitions are awesome! Where'd you get them? Seriously though, now I know I'm voting for barsandtone.

OK, this sucked. (No cookie for David Moon)

Somebody's seen the Max Payne trailer...

Wow, lobster--I may be new here, but I think that's probably the most tasteless comment I've seen made on these boards (and I've even read manbearpig's diatribe related to the first contest entries and subsequent winner).

Is it the fact there is the potential for violent monster hunting that's got you in a tizzy? Or is it the fact that there are some younger people trying their hand at what seems to be an enjoyable and potentially educational film making competition?

James and Alex, I personally got a kick out of this clip. It was funny (and granted, it was overacted and obviously quickly put together by young 'uns ;-) but it does potentially further the story and provide a cliffhanger for the next chapter to hook on to. I liked the tossing and cocking of the gun and the bit with the sunglasses was cute. It's a neat approach to further the story.

I wished for a product placement when the food package was put into his shirt (just keeps with the feel better, I guess) and a better (more accurate-looking) light switch might have been devised (maybe with a tight close-up?). I was glad to see even more new competitors here and maybe now you guys can get some constructive criticism from folks who know the field far better than I do.

Keep working and developing your skills and keep competing. If you win, I say lobster for everyone! ;-)

@SMRG

"If you win, I say lobster for everyone! ;-) "

Guess I'd better set my stomach on something other than lobster then...

Ah, dangman87, it's okay. ;-) Some of my comments read as out of context anyhow at this point, and frankly, it's better that way in this particular case. Besides, who knows what else will be submitted before time's up? I'd rather be a little bit positive (which is as optimistic as I generally am ;-) about everyone's chances and wait to see what else shows up before time's up.

I'm guessing a bunch of folks (contenders in chapter 6 of Chance Encounter) didn't have as much time to put something together (as polished as they'd like) for this competition, so maybe other entries will be rough, too. Who knows? I'm looking forward to all the entries. Besides, this is a good learning experience for these guys--heck, I wouldn't have had the guts to enter a competition like this (especially with all the back-and-forth from viewers) at their age.

Besides, Rockstar's right--everybody's gotta' start somewhere (just thank God I won't ever blind you with anything I might try putting on film). And on that note...

I appreciate the well thought out commentary from you, SMRG. Also, the positivity. As much as I like reading flame wars, they distract from the point of this whole site... which is to get people making films.

I thought it was pretty sweet! A little bit rough but great idea. Funny and entertaining. Good Job!

10/1/2008 at 10:36 a.m. by killerrobotninja

This one has the best continuation idea, so far.

The thing that bothered me the most was the camera mic. You could hear the tape turning. Acceptable for your infant nephew's birthday party, but not Rootclip.

Just for the record, I did remove a tasteless comment made by Lobsterdouche. It wasn't constructive and referenced an event in American history that doesn't need re-visiting. Congrats go to Lobsterdouche, this is the first time I've had to flex executive muscle on the site.

10/1/2008 at 1:54 p.m. by jhonnyonthespot

this means i need to step up my game.

10/1/2008 at 3:39 p.m. by rocknessmonster

Thank you for doing that Kevin, that was a most offensive comment from Lobsterdouche.

10/1/2008 at 5:17 p.m. by davidmoon

I missed it ... darn it!!!

10/2/2008 at 8:22 a.m. by jhonnyonthespot

Be glad you missed it moon it was a really harsh momma joke aimed at you.lol jk it was a in very bad taste school shooting comment.

10/2/2008 at 6:31 p.m. by davidmoon

My momma can kick any momma's butt!

Bad Lobsterdouche!!! BAD!!!

10/3/2008 at 12:14 p.m. by TheElderClan

the movement of Dr. frank is slow and boring. but the shotgun thing was really cool. Good job.

We tried so hard to make this Rootclip something that wouldn't turn into an all-out gun battle. I thought for sure that we wouldn't see any more guns (unlike EVERY other Rootclip story) but you guys proved us wrong. Hahah!!

This was a decent first entry and I can't wait to see how you'll improve over time. Any plans for doing another chapter?

Oh yeah, stuffing the pizza bites into your shirt was a nice touch!
