i dont know what to say other than "da;jgl;kgfgo;;vdfj" and its all true
I felt some of it was a little distasteful...
I'VE created a monster! Why does everyone sound like Pee Wee Herman?
Oooh, funny! Very funny! Some moments of greatness peppered into a fine but chunky dish of tough-but-meaty awesomeness, caressed lightly with a light spread of glazed humor to render a truly delicious dish for those hard-toothed enough to find it.
You guys could also benefit from a better camera, and all the following: -Tripod -Theatrical lighting -A few more angles -A nicer onboard microphone, or unplugging the fridge -A piece of tape across the Nokia logo on the phone. But I think you'll be fine.
Wow, listen to me. I'm turning into David Moon. That's the REAL secret of what's happening beneath the sheet! :O
Fungus... get off the boards and make a danged submission! You've got 26 hours.
@FungusRidden Well put. Thank you. Competition with a budget.
There's some funny stuff here. Igor lying on his resume is a funny idea. Not feeling that unnecessary f-bomb, or the ending.
My favorite part: that neat strobe/stop-motion effect at the beginning.
Nice try hate mongers.
Jeez, lay off. Sometimes people make fun of people. Nothing personal, we were just trying to be A BIT unnerving. Not a whole lot unnerving.
Second watch through: the sound really wasn't as bad as I thought. It helps that you guys projected well -- good theatrical tact that fit nicely.
KRN, I LOVE MAKING MOVIES. I WANT TO GO MAKE A DR. FRANK ONE RIGHT NOW! But I have fire-breathing producers steaming the hairs off my neck about scheduling and permits on my college film, and I don't want to die. ;_; I'm beginning to throw around the idea of canceling my shoot, and handing in Dr. Frank at the end of the semester instead. Phhsh. That'll teach them to mess with me.
hmmm i thought rootclip was PG faggot!
BARS AND TONES! BARS AND TONES! BARS AND TONES!
Yeah, the F word wasn't classy at all.
The voices were entertaining, and the iphone relapse were good, but the total direction of the plot seems to be one of slap stick humor.
Whether that's good or bad depends on your target audience, doesn't it?
Yes, I'm still a bars and tone man.
Where was the emo music?
I liked the concept that Igor had lied on his application (and that there could be a job for evil sidekicks listed on CraigsList) and the swap of one type of phone to another--interesting clip concept. The strobe action at the beginning caught my attention and still continued the previous action (both necessary for a hook).
But the term Dr. Frank used to refer to Igor was inappropriate (and that's the best I can say about that). It stopped the piece's potential humor dead in its tracks. I'm going to be as gentle as I can with this because I very much hope new creative voices continue to emerge here, BUT--
I DO understand that sometimes people make fun of other people (and sometimes make really bad choices with their language or allusions) but it seemed so out of place and contrived (even beyond the fact it's a hateful word)...
It's great to try to be edgy, but you really have to know your audience when you are trying that (and even then I can't easily justify using that word). Try thinking of it this way: In the 20+ years that I've been involved with different aspects of theatre, there hasn't been one person I've known that didn't think that word was as derogatory as they get. And chances are you'll need people involved in theatre to make the types of films you really would like to--I'd hate to see you accidentally turn off folks who could really open some doors in your future.
I apologize for the verbosity, but I'd hate to see you guys shoot yourselves in the foot because of a really bad word choice. Good luck with your future clips! :-)
At one point, someone should call me in for a cameo. That would be a fabulous grand prize -- a trip to Knoxville to be in the next starter RootClip ... and a day at Dollywood.
I just love how you can now say Fck and it's totally cool, no issues, no big deal, but you you say Fggot it is referred to as "the F-bomb" or the "F-word". I guess it is just funny how society changes and cultural norms are morphed. What is totally taboo one relative week is completely acceptable the next.
I would hate to see us shoot ourselves in the feet also, but the reality of it is: would you dislike a film because one of it's characters makes fun of another of it's characters in a socially unacceptable manner?
It's my bedtime, please ignore the grammatical/punctuation errors in the above statement.
Yes. I think in a cute little internet video contest, the word fag is totally out of place and inappropriate.
Not needed language -- I agree.
Nice I liked igore but I don't see how this story can continue
I'm not trying to make a huge deal about a single word. I've certainly enjoyed movies that used stronger language in more derogatory ways. I'm not even hugely offended. It just seemed very out of place and uncharacteristic. Every word in a movie should be carefully chosen to craft the characters and situations. That particular one seemed like a stray bullet.
I don't want people to see this site as stifling creativity for sake of petty word choices. I don't think any particular word is off limits. Just be careful to understand the power of some words, and what they do to the perception of a character.
my $.02
@DavidMoon We're in Knoxville! Maybe once our egos recover we'll put out the call for cameos.
Dnomyar,
Using explicit language when it is not needed in a film shows amateurism. There is a good book called "Independent Film Production - from concept to distribution" that has a great side note about exploitation. Movies that exploit morally inferior actions like showing nudity or unnecessary vulgarity are by and large low budget cheap films.
The use of exploitation shows a lack of creativity and thought behind a work. The film should be so good that it doesn't need to exploit anything for it to gain the viewers attention - or more so, maintain that attention.
Ok, ok. I think we got out point across. I wouldn't want Dnomyar to be too disheartened to submit again (I would be at this point).
So, Dnomyar, please accept my e-handshake. (insert joke about being so sure you'll never say it again, that I'd take you with me to key west without fear of being charged for a hate crime). And, please come on back now, y'hear?
^ yeah, please dude, continue to submit. I thought that other than that your film was fantastically witty! I do not mean to condemn you, but I want to encourage you to shoot higher with your works. You have an incredible amount of creativity with plot flow!
By all means, continue to work on film!
If my films weren't amateurish then I wouldn't be submitting them to Rootclip (no insult to this fine website), I would be making money ;)
I am glad that I have a device to release some of my creative impulses (however petty and vulgar) and I do appreciate the learning experience and advice that this website allows. Thank you KRN for wiping my tears.
Of course I will continue to submit vids, there are so many other demographics and monitory groups that I have yet to offend.
cool deal Dnomyer. How 'bout you burn the heterosexual-caucasian next. That'll be soooo edgy.
@KRN Genius!
"Movies that exploit morally inferior actions like showing nudity or unnecessary vulgarity are by and large low budget cheap films."
Have you seen the uber vulgar soft core porn film called "Good Luck Chuck"?
Budget: $25 Million
What was Jessica Alba thinking?
But sometimes, Hollywood is amateurish when it comes to decision making. And the MPAA gave it an R. I think they're just messing with us.
Nice acting, but the slur left a bad taste in my mouth and the twist doesn't open up many options.
loves it
Killerrobotninja,
Go to one independent video showing and you will know what i'm talking about. Something like the 48 hour film project screenings down at the Belcourt theatre in nashville is a good example.
Its easy to get someone to go to a movie cuz some girl is topless. Its much harder to get them to come because you have a genuinely good story!
No argument here. :)
You killed our product placement!
Seriously though. I really enjoyed your video. I loved your take on Igor's character and the voice was hilarious. Way to go in thinking outside of the box on this one!
