Well done!!! The film has a clear narrative thread and it kept my attention from beginning to end... making me want to see what was going to happen next. I like the camera work and felt that the story tied up at the end very well.
Great submissions everyone for the final round! "The Final Chapter" gets my vote this week because of excellent camera work and some dynamic acting (again). I do want to offer some critique because even though this entry shows a lot of filmmaking craft, the storytelling is it's weakest element. The plot only had one twist (the other entries had much better twists) and dips to black really brought the drama to a grinding halt. Something to be avoided, especially in such a short piece. That said, a good solid ending to a great series of films!
At first, I didn't want to choose "The Final Chapter" due to it's Hollywood ending but after watching it a few times, the acting values, cinematography, writing and editing won me over. "Just Business" was a close contender but in the end the acting values were not as strong and I had a hard time following the dialogue due to the low audio levels.
"The Final Chapter" has tremendous production values and is a clear winner in terms of wrapping up the story. The Hollywood twists and turns are predictable but ultimately they almost become an inside joke on the action genre rather than an embodiment of it.
There were some strong contenders again this week but in the end "The Final Chapter" is a clear winner. Nice job!

Nicely done, all those loose ends got tied up.
pretty damn good
Loose ends tied up? What about how they knocked out the 'Evil' guy, and then he's totally fine enough to put them at gunpoint?
wow!
Hey. Beautiful work. We have a contest, folks! 3 great entries, with totally different, well, everything. This'll be a bloodbath!
Praxis, people DO get up from getting knocked out. Metal chairs sound painful, but they actually give a lot when you're hit with them, so it's entirely possible that the 'evil' guy was only out of commission for the time it took them to leave them room.
Haha, fourth video coming peter. I uploaded mine a few hours ago. Although once you see mine, you might take away that "totally different" comment... You'll be shocked at how similar Bradbury and I think...
Haha, I was!
Great entry, with a nice conventional style of closure that really hands the audience the sort of conclusion they're hoping will come. And way to work in Krang, by the way. ;)
nicely done.
[[Classical Hollywood Cinema]]
oh i didn't notice the Krang originally. Very cool! There's some sick cinematography this round.
nice to see april remain faithful...
the hallway scene... "You must be new here, son. Don't recognize top brass when you see it" Good acting. Good acting all around, but that was my favorite.
This was FANTASTIC! Great acting, great presence by the principles. Even minimal facial expressions were spot on. Excellent, excellent work.
Would've liked a little more explanation in the wrap-up - they drive off into the sunset, but there's still nearby nuclear fallout to contend with... ah well.
I haven't watched the others yet but they're going to have to be amazingly good to get my vote over this one...
Predictable story, but great acting
No, I take that back, AWESOME acting. I'd have to agree with KRN, that scene was really great.
I liked # 3 but # 4 was by far the best, because it actually held my attenttion and had pretty realistic acting. Number 1 was a collosial waste of my time and pretty stupid....
No u D:
(cries)
The beauty of this round is, the judges are going to split completely open. There's no telling where it'll go once they insert their scores...
Really good stuff guys.
So essentially our choices are this, a poor man's version of this, a betrayal-orgy, and a submission that didn't get the memo.
You have my vote, great job.
The acting is a step above on this one, maybe even the best rootclip has seen. I'm surprised at how nobody else thought of creating tension between the characters themselves. To believe that relationships toggle between warm friendship or outright betrayal is idiotic and childish, I'm very disappointed in the other submissions for not rising to the occasion your team presented in Chapter 5.
It's true that the story could have more twists, but much much worse can be said of all the other submissions. I'm not sure what kind of world we live in where having every character betraying every other character is seen as more meaningful than having characters grow and achieve. This submission resolves everything in a way that makes sense to what's been established as well as being true and respectful of the characters and even adding MORE to those characters instead of backpedaling into some sort of bastardization.
Sean Kilby here. I am very proud of you , gentlemen. No offense to the other film makers, but you videos are the ONLY ONES WORTH WATCHING! Period. Loved it. The production quality is tremendous, and your acting is excellent (though I have a hard time ignoring that that's Jake doing the Jake-face-of-anguish). Chapter 5 was the best in the series so far, and your final chapter is very fulfilling. BRAVO! You've got my vote.
alll the others had the WORST acting
this one should win hands down. you got my vote
That was great. I don't make movies I just enjoy watching them and this was GREAT to watch.
@rla when you say "poor mans version of this", I'm guessing that your referring to my video? I face the huge problem that I'm the only high school student in the finals, so all the equipment I use is stuff I own. I've got a decent camera and other equipment, but its tough trying to compete against the industry standard toys these college guys can rent from their schools. (Not that theres anything wrong with it, if I had the opportunity to rent nicer stuff, I'd do it in a second!).
But great video guys, its funny how many similarties there are in our videos. Great minds think alike ;)
Great video and very suspenseful editing. Good job!
Speaking of "I don't make movies I just enjoy watching them"... where the heck is David Moon?
@JakusB Sorry if the comment came off condescending. I would be proud to have won anything on this site. I started in high school as well, I hope you keep making movies.
Wow. I watched JakusB's clip first and then saw this one. It was neat to see how similar people interested in this industry can think, even if there is a significant age gap between the pieces' makers. This one and Jake's are the only two that seemed to really fulfill what I thought the goals of the contest were (at least from my understanding of it)--bringing a cohesive ending to a storyline being told (or envisioned) by many different voices.
I enjoyed all the clips this round but blinked a few times at the similarities between these two. :-)
The only criticism I can recall having for this one was that when April and Ryan were walking down the hall I kept thinking "They have less than 2 minutes to avert annihilation--wouldn't they jog or something?" But maybe I need to review it. And wasn't this the one where April hauled off and hit Ryan? Why? If it had been a swing at someone she thought was an attacker I could see it, but I thought there was a definite pause... Guess I'll look again. The acting was good, camera work seemed pretty tight--nice work, guys. :-)
I'm surprised this isn't in first place. YET. Good job guys!
This is undoubtedly the best video in the competition!
This is a amazing film. Very well shot, some of the camera work was a little shaky but not that noticeable. Great Job guys. BUT, this doesn't get my vote. The story was just too cliche. This kinda thing seem to be the outcome all the time. If you gave it a greater twist it would probably be number one right now.
PS Acting was killer. Kudos to the actors.
The best, all-around. A bit predictable, but what can you do in 3 min? At least you didnt't waste time running or fighting and gave the actors time to develop. Kudos! Hope youguys win.
I don't know how you guys arn't in first place. Even though I've submitted a video, I still think this one is the best and deserves the win. I can't wait for the judge's decision.
so what is this "company" that she used to work for that wants to blow up the eastern seaboard? I wonder if they have dental.
western seaboard. dangit.
Will... you are the new vin diesel
@ KRN - I've been so swamped at work this week ... then my cable modem went out last night, so it's off to Wal-mart after I leave the office ... then I can login and catch up with my Cliptiques before the contest ends.
jbrad bringing the heat!
Working on your inner game has really helped your acting ability. Great acting from all.
This really should be leading -- it's excellent. I cannot think of a negative thing to say.
Yeah, this is fantastic. Amazing acting, great surprises. I did not expect blue shirt (forgive me, forgetting character names) to return because his acting was so solid with his fear before when he ran off. Great compositions, as well. Amazing.
Really enjoyed this one.Great framing and camera work. Good lighting and sound, music worked too; not overbearing. Acting believable enough that you stopped thinking it was acting and got wrapped up in the story. Definitely the best. Star
The Best!
nice nice. well done.
Great job!
this video is about as original as its title
That guy kinda looks like Andy Richter
Really great story. I could definately see this on the big screen one day, if if just had a bit more funding. ;) The winners! (I hope)
Nicely done
The sound design really sold me on this one. The dialogue cuts moved the story along, and the sound effects were very appropriate. Not overdone. Great pacing as well. Hands down, this is the winner.
Well done, well paced, well written, and wrapped it all up well. Best one.
exciting and well acted.
awesome stranger jakus
I liked the musical but I voted for you guys out of love!
Dude you are so lucky to find good actors like these. It is really hard to find good (mature) Actors that want the movie to turn out the way you do. So next time your mad at one of your actors just think to your self "I'm a lucky guy to have him/her as an actor" Good Lucky to you and may the best man win. (of the submitters of course)
Wow, we got more than twice as many votes this round than last. I tried to find some voting guidelines somewhere on this site, but I couldn't. It makes you wonder why people vote for what, since they've not been told to use any sort of standards whatsoever.
I suppose the general consensus would be to vote for the entry that embodies more of what you'd like to see in the future. Hopefully we'll win this round, makes entering the next one that much more interesting.
Great job! The story was very entertaining. Filming was spot on. The music fit perfectly and the acting was great too!
Great Acting, Great ending!
Congrats guys, you deserved it.
Congratulations, guys! The judges are in agreement; you had an AWESOME piece of cinema to wrap the movie up with, and a very satisfying conclusion to the story. Wonderful job again, and thanks for putting this together. Hopefully you keep producing new ones for us! ;)
Acting values? The Andy Richter guy was good, but the guy who plays KC was terrible.
Good camera work? My grandfather with Parkinsons wouldn't be that shaky.
I want to thank everyone who voted for us, who worked on it, and who commented. Believe it or not, Will is not only a great actor but also the editor, and as for myself I am the producer, writer and actor. My team and I worked long hours to deliver something that everyone could enjoy. I wrote this piece as satire, but told everyone to play it completely straight. If you thought it was funny, it was, and if you thought it was action packed explosive tension, it was. Thank you again to everyone for a wonderful experience. To all the other contestants, I admire your work, and if you're ever in LA do not hesitate to call. I look forward to working with every one of you. Thank you.
Not bad, not bad. This was a good victory with some good competition. As a complete package this was the best. I agree with Birnbaum on the story-telling aspect. This was really good minus the weak climax and somewhat cheesy plot. ENJOY THE MONEY!!
JBRAD & TEAM! WOOHOO!
STEVE HOLT!
BEATRICE!

Will Great acting as the hero. Keep it up and good luck.
Yeah, you're gonna need it.
where did his friend get the gun from? he was scared to death from the start ... can't imagine him tackling another to get it
Loved the ending. Good tension throughout the entire thing!
