I think Tightly Knit did a great job of advancing the story into a truly unexpected and maniacal way. The production values are really incredible for such a short period of time, in particular thanks to the super wide aspect ratio and great camera work and lighting--it feels more cinematic than most of the submissions. The actors also deserve a lot of credit for delivering a really credible and humorous performance.
I've wanted to see some comedy start working into these clips from the beginning so I was so pleased to give my vote to Tightly Knit. Great work!

Didn't know if I could get this one done in time!
It was a lot of fun!
Watching you guys run around in the sweater with the gun cracks me up every time.
OMG! That was so funny. Man, there is a LOT of humor this round and I love it. Its nice to hear you guys actually talk, rather than voice overs. Man, this is gonna be by far the toughest of all the competitions. Great, great job guys!
that was awsome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
YES!! you had me at "uh KC... we're in the same sweater." Very well done!
hahaha Darren Blooms!
CINEMATIC LOVE <3 <3 <3 !!!
Wow. Incredible cinematography, my friend. Those visuals were both stunning and brilliant. You are a pro.
I'm also elated that someone took the storyline into this saddistic-trap direction, considering that was my first instinct way back at the beginning. I'm glad, through your story, it's finally coming to pass!
I think a little bit of the execution and intensity could have been stepped up, particularly in setting a sterner course (first I thought Man was in the room, then I thought he had run away, then I thought he was going to attack them, then I realized he was going to hold the pose until the final chapter). But I've got to hand it to you, this must've taken loads of work, between lighting, editing, and an almost-musical number.
Did you add a super-matte onto the video at the end? I've never seen such a wide letterbox... It makes it look wicked cool. >:3
Now who tapes a starter pistol to the bottom of the chair ...
Not sure about this one yet. Great things, but could have used a better transition from the last clip to this one.
I think the transition was fairly fluid, it totally advanced the story, and I think it was pretty self evident that the guy had taken them back to his "lair" and had tied the guys up and was doing God knows what to April. Plus my grandpa ALWAYS taped guns to his chairs, or so I am told, I never met him, he died suddenly in his recliner and no one has told me how.
i have a gun taped to my chair
The story immediately caught my attention and held it. It is wickedly suspenseful!
"Wickedly Suspenseful!," - ha Mom (My Mother) thanks for the comment. I never heard you say the word 'Wickedly' ... accept when your talking about wooden furniture ha. Thanks for the 'hip' comment.
You guys deserve a win, and this is your best clip so far. That sweater is beautiful by the way? haha, that is a great way to tie two people together. We've got some masterminds on our hands.
hmm... i seem to have asked you fine fellows if the sweater was beautiful. And I expect an answer.
WOW! An incrediable take on what was turning into a very boring afternoon. Are you people professionals by chance? The story caught my attention right away with the crazy guy's superb acting and that laugh! Then onto the "zip tied" = so funny! and the song- great humor!! and bringing it back to their dire situation was the superb standup straight guy. Loved it! Especially liked the back and forth scene when the "monster" was making the bomb on the chair. Very well executed and the music fit in perfectly. Let's see, this is the fifth clip I've watched and yes, you've got my vote hands down so far, but I'm still going to watch the last three before making up my mind. Thanks for bringing in some light!! PS - a gun under the chair is as credible as it gets in the movies! Can't figure out why anyone would question that - afterall, movies are make believe, they bring us to that place where reality is not welcome.
hahaha awesome
Who knew sweaters were so dangerous. Nice work!
aaand were zip tied. haha. love it. good job guys!
Hey, I watched all nine of the clips and I came back to "Tightly Knit" to give you my vote. The manner in which you executed your ideas came across well. I especially liked the elongated film and the play with shadows - very nice! Also, I had no problem hearing or understanding what was said (or sung). Importantly, you left it wide open for the next chapter and held my attention right from the get-go. Plus, it was new material!! It took imagination and creativity. Did you write the music also?? Just had lots going on. I gladly give you my vote.
Thanks for the positive feedback guys! Hueh, I'm no pro, but I tried to do as 'professional' a job I could! I really liked the compositions working in 3.0:1 aspect ratio offered, makes for a different way to tell the story, so I matted off the viewfinder on my camera. I just finished up building a jib and a dolly and track, so I was excited to get to use them a bit on this project. Fungusridden, thanks for the kind words, I wanted to keep what door lead to what room and where the man really was from the audience until as late as possible, so any confusion is a good thing!
KRN, it is a beautiful, beautiful sweater, woven from the harvested throat beards of nomadic yiddish goat herders... very, very rare. :)
Oh, I didn't write most of the music on this one, just the amazing single note line under the 'musical number'
I think David should be careful, walking through life not realizing the plethora of guns taped to the bottom of chairs around him ;)
omg, seriously you guys need to take on acting, zach alec and eric with his amazing video directing skills...SWEEEET
-April-
So funny! I laugh every time I watch it... and I've watched it at least 3 times now!
KC... you don't have to die with a man in a sweater... Dig it guys! Keep Rockin'!
md
Great Job! I keep watching it over and over...Funny Stuff and awesome camera work. You've got my vote for this chapter...Need to know how you're going to get out of the sweater and Ziplocs!
Ok first off, was it necessary to film that wide screen? More than half of the frame is black, and it looks really bad. The chapter is funny and unique, and is pretty well by itself, but it has nothing to do with the rest of the series. What about the bomb going off at the hospital? My feeling is if this video is chosen the next scene will have to really quickly clean up after this one, and it won't flow well at all. How'd the get from being in a field with a gun in their face, to tied up in a house? That's a potentially interesting story line hole that should have been filled.
bobmcgee- Pretty sure the 'crazy scientist' in the film was behind the bomb, I believe that's what they were going for. I personally like the wide screen, it's something different. No clean up neccessary, I think it will flow just fine. Awesome camera work. I'm impressed!
How'd they get from the field to the house? I think the answer to that is obvious........wizardry.
With the widescreen, although it seems that you are losing information due to the smaller picture, you are actually seeing more of the frame, and a bigger, broader picture than standard 4:3 or even 16:9, This results in a panoramic view that when used properly can add a greater breadth and perception of the environment and mood of a movie. -widescreen.org
matting the viewfinder. that is a REALLY good idea. consider it stolen.
Funny! Odd twist with the sweater, but hey it kept things interesting
I like it lots. Very witty!
I disagree, Bob. I really, really like how incredibly (absurdly) anamorphic it looks! It's like watching something on a true theatrical screen; we're just not lucky enough to have a proper display for it... :<
But, it's certainly true that the majority of the viewer is wasted, I guess. I'm not sure I really care to see what's missing, though (shoulder blades, knee caps, head room). I'm not sure it'd seem as tense and powerful, though, without really tight bars closing the picture in so tightly.
Damn that's wide! The sweater thing was really funny but I honestly feel like the video slacked off from there.
well its different...sorta...i think "special" is the right word for this video :D
The only thing I like about this video is the wall paper ...
lol the sweater line is hilarious. very nice. Not a big fan of the villain though
bahahaha "we're in the same sweater"
also i agree that letter boxing is a little massive...
wow this movie is the best movie i have ever watched in my life and everyone in it is so handsome and funny and creative i wish i could vote for it 100 times
looks like david is taking the crushing reality of the under-chair guns personally
ummm, what?!
I agree with evyshmevy that, "this is the best movie."
If the film wins I can't wait to see how each group follows this film up ... and I strongly disagree with PantsMan about the villain ... because the villain only has 3 lines it leaves so much open for chapter 6! & thank God there finally is a main villain unlike 'wrong place, wrong time" - who didn't even establish the main villain. If wrong place wrong time wins chapter 5 .... chapter 6 will have to be called 'No Time'.
I still don't believe you all. I've been looking at every chair that I pass over the last few days and no guns. Some chewing gum, a banana, a stick of C4 connected to an old Timex watch, but no guns!!!
you just don't live in the right state....or close enough to a swamp, bayou or mountain top
Oh trust me ... I live in the right state. Maybe I just need to check under couches ... can fit an AK-57, or assault riffle under no sissy chair.
ak-57 under a couch, now thats just ridiculous!
I kid, I kid :)
Off subject, but I do household moving, you'd be both amazed and terrified at the things I find under things....
Off subject, I like pretty ladies hats and long lacy opera gloves. Oh, and miniature lavender smelling pillows that you put in your drawers to make you clothes smell real nice.
Off the subject -
Was the comment that I made on Jhonny's "oh my" a little to honest? let me know what you think.
@GetAround - I know you want an answer to your question, but keep it to one video please. All I have to say is that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Suckiness is subjective. Wash new jeans before you wear them, or you might get an unsightly rash.
or one shaped like a raspberry
New jeans are nasty. They pay underage Chinese prostitutes 12 cents an hour to wear them for a week straight to give that pre-worn look -- or so I hear.
God, this video still makes me laugh.
WOW, great video....i can't believe you're losing...thank god for judges.
thanks GoJakeGo, feel free to pass a vote our way!
I can't think of anything I didn't like about it. It's really good and I like where it is bringing the storyline..a little creepy is good for a welcomed change! plus humor too - not too many can pull that off! I can't wait to see the next chapter!
Nice work! That guy is crazy....awesome!
why is this in a fatty letterbox? Seriously, its a letterbox of a letterbox. How do you even do that? i can understand wanting to see less of this but making the letterbox binge ate tollhouse out of business, not the way to go.
that was supposed to be "making the letterbox LOOK LIKE IT binge ate tollhouse out of business" please excuse me on that one. but you get the point. letterbox bad.
letterbox bad....how so? Did you want to see a taller picture? Did you want to see (as fungusridden pointed out) their shoulders and knees? I grew up watching films shot in cinemascope and panavision, especially westerns, and enjoy the broader picture frame widescreen offers as a director. This isn't the place to argue the benefits of widescreen, but in a nutshell....
letterbox=just fine.
I concur.
i third that notion. widescreen is preferred over all else.
I am so impressed with this movie! talented fellas. this was so refreshing compared to the other more typical action movie clips. lets all vote for it because there are only 12 hours left! goodness!
THat first scene with the shadow of the scissors on the wall and the new guy (Darren?) coming in gets me everytime. That voice is so absolutely weird! very creepy a good set up to the sweater and song, haha! I decided to vote for you because it was the most creative of them all.
"Going somewhere hahahaha" I liked the ending & how it opened it up in a new direction for the next chapter. THe whole clip was done well - the acting, directing, sound - the presentation. Right on!
i liked the part where the actor said "we gotta get out of here" good acting
yeah letterbox is awsome. this one isnt. it sucks.
I guess we could really all learn a thing or two from you then, ryan.....
no one ever says 'when i grow up, I want to be a critic'
If you don't like the small picture, view it fullscreen
I feel good about the film we made ... I really like the fact that are film pulled in a lot of votes from people who are really involved with the rootclip community, but the contest isn't over yet.
I really liked this one, and even though I cast my vote for "Nowhere to Run," this definitely should have been higher than "Wrong Place, Wrong Time."
ugh! You guys can't catch a break. You've got a win coming, keep up the quality work guys.
LOL! still one of my favorites!!
