Adds some intriguing possibilities on the way to a wacky cliffhanger, leaving plenty for the next segment to play off. It's also extremely well shot and edited, with a superbly creepy vibe and, finally, a bit of definition in the characters.

This was a great round of competition. Lots of strong entries and hard work. Kudos to everyone who entered a film. For me it came down to two entries "Nowhere to Run" and "Tightly Knit." Both films are good solid pieces, though very different. "Tightly Knit" was weird, funny and very clever. However, the letterbox was too extreme, especially for the web, and the visual storytelling was confusing. Often, I wasn't sure what was happening and had to watch it again to understand who was doing what and where. In contrast, "Nowhere to Run," though less clever, is a solid piece of filmmaking. Strong visual storytelling and what I was most excited about, character development! The fact that Ryan and KC so clearly wanted different things, and that if informed the story made it unique. The acting was a notch above any other entry. My vote goes to "Nowhere to Run." Great job guys!

This gets my vote. I think it's very well shot and the story adds up to me. It has a great sense of suspense and you don't know where it's going, which is a good thing. The acting is pretty good and it leaves a nice ending for the other filmmakers to add onto.

Very well done entry! Glad to see others using Kevin MacLeod's music, since he's usually our choice as well when we use royalty free selections. Excellent cliffhanger as well, since it would lead to chapter 6 not only getting April back, but finally solving the explosion issues. Again, nice job, and best of luck!

I just got my face rocked. VERY well done.

9/9/2008 at 5:51 p.m. by erik

Dude! That's all I'm gonna say. "Dude!"

9/9/2008 at 6:01 p.m. by killerrobotninja

nicely done!

9/9/2008 at 6:28 p.m. by JakusB

Video looks great, good plot, and great acting. My only critique would be that the audio was a little hard to hear at times, but other than than this is a very solid entry. Good luck!

9/9/2008 at 6:31 p.m. by davidmoon

Very nicely done, but maybe a little hard to wrap up in 2 minutes. Love the location.

9/9/2008 at 7:11 p.m. by jacberry89

lookin' forward to see how it will be continued in chapter 6. premature? maybe. but probably not.

9/9/2008 at 7:33 p.m. by JakusB

@David, they said we're gonna have more than two minutes for chapter 6. But it still would be quite hard to wrap up in three minutes, I agree with you there. But maybe if they feel as generous to go maybe... five minutes?

9/9/2008 at 7:43 p.m. by erik

Hahah! @JakusB you wish!

I don't know...maybe we leave it up to you guys to decide on the length of the final chapter? Maybe we leave it WIDE open and not put a cap on it?! LOL!!

@HungryFungus we're in need of another Production Meeting to figure this one out. Maybe you can weigh in on how we should proceed?

9/9/2008 at 8:19 p.m. by JakusB

OMG. I have never seen Production Meeting before. That was friggin' amazing! I wasn't expecting my five minute idea to go very far... I also don't think it should be unlimited time. The two minutes really puts an added element in there (not to mention, I don't think your servers would be very happy if 4 people submitted hour long videos...) I wonder how many more videos are coming in the next 30 hours...

9/9/2008 at 9:03 p.m. by zabs3205

i like how this one can connect with the who explosion at the beginning. well done. i guess i won't be winning. best of luck.

9/9/2008 at 10:03 p.m. by ChiriSan

Nowhere to run is the business!! We need more videos like this, can't be comedy stuff all the time. Good work guys, hope you win.

9/9/2008 at 11:17 p.m. by jhonnyonthespot

way to blow the load early very good til that sh!tty ending..

9/9/2008 at 11:25 p.m. by dswinder

Very well done. One of my favorite submissions in any of the chapters so far.

9/9/2008 at 11:56 p.m. by cattheif

Its a shame that the sound isnt better

9/10/2008 at 12:39 a.m. by davidmoon

Those TomToms really are packed full of features!

9/10/2008 at 12:46 a.m. by davidmoon

I like the no time restraints for the final video.

@HungryFungus I think you need to lampoon some of us on the boards in the next production meeting ... I'm sure you can get a wise-cracking 94 year old woman to play me.

9/10/2008 at 1:50 a.m. by FungusRidden

"I have a proposition for you, Tony!"

Really, really sharp image there! And the setting was terrific, as well! The audio was a bit spotty, but it doesn't detract too badly and is easily forgivable. I'm glad you decided to hit him with a chair -- I was worried that bargain was going to be accepted! ^_^;

It might be a trick to wrap up in Chapter 6, but that's not your problem (...yet...) Strong, strong entry! Nice work, guys. :>

9/10/2008 at 2:04 p.m. by judym

WOW!! Best chapter so far. Really leaves us in suspense . . .

9/10/2008 at 4:43 p.m. by Bringyourownbowl

pretty nice! has anyone here seen the show jericho?

reminds me of it haha

9/10/2008 at 6:44 p.m. by jaytaylorthe1

Excellent clip! This is a fantastic entry. The talent is really getting better and better.

@ David, hahaha, Tom Tom's rock my socks off

9/10/2008 at 7:38 p.m. by davidmoon

I believe that the version (with the voice activated global thermonuclear war tracker) of the TomTom is called TaamirTaamir.

9/10/2008 at 8:33 p.m. by MovieJunkie

Wow. I like the way this one was shot. It felt dynamic. Not just a one trick pony. I like some of the fades and tilts and that location was great. Good story also. This definately progressed the story while following the previous chapter to a T. Also that blonde guy with the tie on did a really good job of acting I thought. Everyone else was good too but he looked very proffesional and showed character, mood emotion ect with body language and his eyes. The other hostage guy had a tougher role though too and pulled it off convincingly enough. Someone's got to be the timid one - for conflict etc, etc.

9/11/2008 at 3:32 a.m. by wblank

Thanks everyone for the awesome feedback. We had a lot of fun putting it together. Assuming we make it to the next round, audio is definitely going to be a priority. Cheers and thanks again for welcoming us to the community!

9/11/2008 at 3:48 a.m. by JakusB

Hmm... MovieJunkie, your name doesn't happen to be Will does it? And you didn't happen to play Ryan Brown did you? >.>

9/11/2008 at 10:46 a.m. by New_sacred_cow

my biggest problem is with the audio at certain moments.

9/11/2008 at 12:21 p.m. by fiercedeityys

All things considered, I think I like this one the best. It's not as good as some others in certain aspects, but overall the package was enjoyable. It's got my vote...for now.

9/11/2008 at 2:49 p.m. by studfee

Well shot and keeps me guessing. This is my favorite yet, good execution from the actors as well as the camera work. Can't wait to see what happens next.

9/11/2008 at 3:02 p.m. by mock

good job with the story line and good production. i am amazed at how all you guys seem to know of abandoned warehouses for these scenes.

9/11/2008 at 3:33 p.m. by Hueh

Being a sci-fi buff, I have one word for this take "JERICHO" I thought I was watching a rerun from Jericho - I do like that show, but I"d rather watch it on TV. I will say, you are the first clip I've watched, so who knows??? RIght now tho it's looking too vanilla...plus the voice echoes in the building were not good.

9/11/2008 at 5:23 p.m. by Mandingo

Nick Mandara is sheer genious......you had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. but watch out with the laughin during a scene. Nah good job little brother

Good luck, hey whos the girl shes cute.....ha

9/11/2008 at 5:24 p.m. by arthompson

you are my heroes.

9/12/2008 at 1:10 a.m. by bobmcgee

I really like the approach you took here. The chapter picks up where the last one left off nicely and it flows pretty well. You bring up the importance of April that all the submissions seem to be hinting at, but you also return to the bomb which a few others forgot about. There were some technical issues, such as you can't really hear the villain at times, and then when he makes his proposition, he's harshly lit, but otherwise I think it was a great entry.

9/12/2008 at 10:23 a.m. by Ohhhh

Pretty! But too much like 24 for me...like for serious, how are these guys gonna save the world from that many bombs? Nice reference to the 2 mins left though! Creative

9/12/2008 at 5:09 p.m. by FordPrefect

Great warehouse location! I do wish your audio was a bit clearer though...

9/12/2008 at 5:53 p.m. by danflew

if he (the antagonist w/ gun) was going to let them go, why demand they get in the car or die?

awesome locale though

9/12/2008 at 8:11 p.m. by PantsMan

that warehouse is badass. and its got some very pretty shots and lighting is wonderful. I just wish more had happened.

9/12/2008 at 8:18 p.m. by Raph

hmm yeah that's a ton of bombs for a few minutes...or is this gonna be like an independence day scenario.

other than that small detail great job guys. truely great job

9/14/2008 at 7:46 a.m. by Anton

Very nicely done! I love the cinematography, and the location is also awesome! Good acting as well! The sound lack doesn't disturb me so much. My favorite moment is when Barry Singer says "Then I'll put a bullet in your head!" and smiles. That rocks! Good luck!

9/14/2008 at 5:03 p.m. by nrryan

thank you for being one of the few entries that actually make sense and aren't completely retarded.

9/14/2008 at 5:30 p.m. by nokil0

Good job guys. -Gato

9/14/2008 at 8:39 p.m. by mattswriting

Awesome video! I think this is the best one!

9/15/2008 at 12:35 p.m. by jhonnyonthespot

Now I know mine was not the best but I did think I was going to get one judge vote

9/15/2008 at 1:12 p.m. by Anton

Dear Rootclip Team and community.

I don't know where to post this, so I'll just post it in the comments of the two videos involved.

Actually you just have to look at the voting history of "wrong place, wrong time". The video got 67 Votes in the last two hours! Wow! Over a third of all their votes in just two hours. These guys must have forgotten to tell so many of their friends about this thing and must've told them this morning! Congratulations! This is pretty amazing!

First I thought "there must be something wrong!" But then I read in the voters comments that one friend was at work and wanted to ask the others from work to vote for this clip. Okay, I thought. So this guy managed to convince at least 30 people from work to vote. Nice! Then I also found out that one of the voters was sitting in film class. So he also might have just asked about 30 students to vote for "wrong place, wrong time".

The only thing that disturbs me is that the votes are so nicely spread over the last two hours! Poor office, poor film school! Could somebody please give them another computer so they don't have to stand in line to vote! One might still think there's something wrong. But don't worry. One third of the last-two-hour voters have at least posted a comment or have voted also for another clip. So everything is cool - these are real people!

Good for them that they had so many friends who voted! If it weren't for them "Nowhere to run" would have won.

So there is nothing left to say than congratulations!

Hope you guys feel as good as I do about this thing!

Cheers!

9/15/2008 at 1:19 p.m. by charliechaplin

You obviously haven't been around long enough to know that this happens all the time. Thankfully there are judge votes now to take a little away from that. People will deny all they want they didn't cheat the system but we all know the truth. Rest assured that this video was the best.

9/15/2008 at 2:39 p.m. by jhonnyonthespot

I agree this video wasn't sh!t but I think the best part about it are those locations where did you shoot ? God if only all videos had good locations . Root clip would make a good tv show . Get all the teams together give them the same location same actors and same equipment . I'd watch that

9/15/2008 at 3:10 p.m. by ing

This was by far the best video, so here's hoping you get the last judge vote. If not, I'm prepared to call shenanigans on the voting habits of Tony's group. Votes that are a minute apart each for a solid hour straight? Seems weird to me...

9/15/2008 at 3:27 p.m. by zim

I think tightly knit was better then this video .

9/15/2008 at 3:30 p.m. by davidmoon

Compared to Wrong Place, Wrong Time this is Citizen Kane. A better film all around than most of the entries. Good luck with the last judge!!!

9/15/2008 at 3:36 p.m. by davidmoon

SWEET!!! WINNER, WINNER CHICKEN DINNER!!! Congrats!!!

9/15/2008 at 3:36 p.m. by fiercedeityys

Congratulations! I was rooting (no pun) for you guys the entire time. Glad to see that the judging system has finally prevailed and shown its true worth! >:3

9/15/2008 at 3:38 p.m. by FungusRidden

Congratulations, fellas. I agree with Ya'Ke; this is an awesome spot to pick up for Chapter 6, and I'm glad you'll be competing in it!

Of course, I'm bitter that you have the edge for continuing from here, but somebody had to have it. :P

9/15/2008 at 4:58 p.m. by jaytaylorthe1

good job guys, I voted for ya so this pleases me

9/16/2008 at 5:27 a.m. by JakusB

Congrats guys. Now I gotta find a warehouse >.<

9/16/2008 at 10:17 p.m. by RockstarProductions

Hey JakusB. Your film about me was very touching. :( And the sarcasm made me bust out laughing. Nice job. You should try to get something going as an editor and writer for 20/20, Dateline, or Nightline. Your a pretty good story teller

BTW Good job Jbradbury Awsome clip. Story was clinging and the film was astonishing. Great Work.
