Here's part 1 of Robert Rodriguez's 10 minute film school that he is showing at guerrilla filmmaking festivals. Anybody who is interested in film making should definitely watch this. I'll try and post the second part up later this week.
He makes one camera and 25 rolls of film in total for El Mariachi look like an entire production. Very cool. I like how he also doesn't do second takes, but instead just shoots again with a different camera angle. The guy is a genius.
Did you know he shot the whole movie silently? Way cool.

Genius. With digital now, I'm not sure conserving film is such a big deal, but his multiple takes idea is great. Also the fact that he didn't use a lot of lenses is really cool too.
The digital transition isn't as far along as a lot of people think. Most feature films are still shot on film. Usually, the film is scanned and becomes digital, but starts out on plastic.
The alternatives, like the RED system, are still very expensive, and require the learning of a whole new skill set.
So if you're making a film that you have any intention of making for the big screen, film is still the way to go. And if you don't have producers, conserving film is very important.
this is a great post by the way. My favorite so far!
This guy if frickin brilliant!
